Welcome! I’m Stephanie Sprenger, writer, producer, podcaster, and mother of two girls. I write about the intersection of motherhood and feminism, midlife and aging, nostalgia, and relationships. My work has been published in O Magazine, The Washington Post, Cosmopolitan.com, Redbook.com, Brain, Child Magazine, Motherwell, Mutha Magazine, Scary Mommy, The Huffington Post, and The Chicken Soup for the Soul Series, among other places. You can find my portfolio with writing samples here. I am currently working on a memoir. Breadcrumbs Across Suburbia is the story of a nostalgia pilgrimage that turned into a therapeutic reclamation. My preoccupation with retracing my steps led me to visit all 17 of my former homes, and what I found there was far from what I expected.

I am Executive Producer of Listen To Your Mother Boulder. LTYM is the live stage celebration that gives Mother’s Day a microphone. Featuring original stories– some poignant, some humorous– read by local writers, LTYM takes readers on a well-crafted journey with lots of laughter, tears, and nods of recognition. Our annual May show takes place at the historic Boulder Theater. You can find out more about Listen To Your Mother Boulder here.

In 2013, Jessica Smock and I founded¬† The HerStories Project, a writing and publishing community for Gen X women at midlife. To date, we have published five anthologies, including Mothering Through the Darkness: Women Open Up About the Postpartum Experience, published by She Writes Press in 2015 and So Glad They Told Me: Women Get Real About Motherhood in 2016. Both Mothering Through the Darkness and My Other Ex: Women’s True Stories of Leaving and Losing Friends, were Finalists in Foreword Reviews’ IndieFab Book of the Year contest. Our most recent essay collection, The Pandemic Midlife Crisis: Gen X Women on the Brink, is available for purchase here. We currently offer writing courses and a supportive online community for Gen X Women at midlife. Learn more about our offerings here!

Two years ago, I fell in love with podcasting, and along with Stacey Hutson, I co-host the Mother Plus podcast. Stacey, our guests, and I dive deep into topics of maternal ambivalence, motherhood guilt and unfulfillment, identity, and finding your spark again after becoming a mom. Listen to us here, and check us out online to stay up to date on our in-person offerings coming in fall 2023. Our first Mother + mini-retreat will take place in Denver on September 9th, and we are excited to bring our community Mother + The Mic monthly events at local neighborhood bars. Because talent shows aren’t just for the kids, and we can’t wait to see our mother plussers shine on stage.
