I am so excited to be featured on Mamalode today with a piece called, “Play With Me, Mommy!” If you haven’t read Mamalode yet, I highly recommend it. They are a fantastic online parenting magazine with a different theme each month. August’s theme is play, and my essay shares my struggle to overcome my inhibitions, distractions, and general disposition in order to enjoy playing with my children.

Here is a teaser:

I hate playing with my kids.

That fact alone causes me more guilt than almost any of my perceived maternal shortcomings.

Don’t get me wrong- I love to snuggle with them, rock them, take them on outings, read with them, watch movies with them, and even, when a whimsical mood overshadows my Type A tendencies, bake with them.

But imaginative play makes me shudder….
