Last week I wrote about an epic meltdown I had while traveling alone with my two kids. I was so touched by the outpouring of support in the comments from people who assured me that it was normal and not necessarily a bad thing that I lost my sh*t in front of the kids. I appreciated the compassion and solidarity so much. I think it’s true that most of us have had moments when we’ve lost our composure in front of the kids.
Some of these moments are completely unavoidable, but there are a handful of times I wish I could’ve done something differently. If I could go back in time to those instances in which I was rapidly unraveling in front of my kids, I would totally send myself to Time Out. Sometimes Mommy needs her own Time Out, where she can take some deep breaths, calm down, read a book for a few minutes, or even pour herself a nice glass of Zinfandel.
I am excited to share a new ParentZ Bop song parody video with you today! Our very own Lisa from The Golden Spoons rewrote Maroon 5’s PayPhone and created “Mommy’s In Time Out.” I think you’ll love it. 🙂 Here is the video, featuring Lisa’s fantastic lyrics:
Mommy’s In Time Out- Lyrics by Lisa Witherspoon
Mommy’s in time out trying to calm down
All of my patience now is gone.
Why don’t you listen and do what I tell you?
When is your father coming home?
Yeah, I, I am exhausted and grumpy.
I think I might have PMS.
The kids are driving me crazy
and my house is a mess.
My kids are fighting and whining.
Why can’t they just get along?
They need to do homework and chores
But my sanity’s gone!
I’m wasting my breath
they just ignore me
Now I’m losing it!
I’m walking away so that I don’t yell.
I need some chocolate or Zinfandel!
Mommy’s in time out trying to calm down
All of my patience now is gone.
Why don’t you listen and do what I tell you?
When is your father coming home?
If happy ever after did exist,
I would not be feeling quite like this!
All those fairy tales are full of it
’cause Cinderella did not have kids!
They woke me up at 5:30
Cause they wanted to eat.
I gave them my love forever,
But they are annoying me!
You can’t expect me to be fine.
I know they don’t really care.
I know I’ve said it before, but all of my patience is gone!
All those fairy tales are full of it
’cause Cinderella did not have kids.
Now mommy’s in time out . . . . .

I already told Lisa how much I loved this parody and seriously this Mommy could use a time out often enough and can truly relate. Great job to both of you on this!! 🙂
Thanks Janine!
Very creative. You guys make quite the duo! 🙂
It was fun! Thanks, Chris!
That was awesome, Stephanie! Cinderella most certainly did not have kids. I’m glad you received so many supportive comments on last week’s post – it does help a little to know you’re not alone.
It definitely does, Dana- thanks for always being such a supportive friend!
“When is your father coming home” has to be my favorite! I love love love this!! You both rock. Huge. All of my patience is gone, too. 😀
xo, my friend! Thanks for sharing!
I know I’m new to the Parentz Bop, but I love it. I think you should sell CDs – seriously. I want time out like the one in your song, because it sounds like fun.
I will admit the idea has crossed my mind… 😉 Thanks, Allie!
This is a surefire classic. You need to make a CD of these, lady!!!!!! “when is your father coming home?” Oh, I could have written this myself!! EXCELLENT!
Glad you liked it! It was fun! 😉 And, oh, the CD wheels are turning… 😀
I love it so much! So fun to play with words like that and, then, hear it put to music. I love this series and I’m so happy to be part of it. More importantly, I’m glad you got so much support for your meltdown post. We all have them and it helps to know that we are not alone. Love you the way you tied these together.
You did great with the lyrics- thank you SO much! This was so much fun to record!
“Cinderella did not have kids” A-FREAKING-MEN!!!!! Loved this! Kudos to Lisa for those perfect lyrics and your rendition. 🙂
Thanks Jen! Happy to have you as a co-hostess this week! 🙂
“’cause Cinderella did not have kids”…lol, love that! This is so funny, very clever!
Thanks Kerry!
I love it…if I wasn’t at work I’d sing along while eating my chocolate.
Ha! Thanks, Karen!
My son is grown and I still need time outs. 🙂
I suspect the same will be true for me decades down the road! 😉
Oh yes, those lyrics resonate with me. There have been many times over the years that this mommy has slipped into the bathroom with a book or a bit of covertly smuggled chocolate for five minutes of breathing. Thankfully, they are both teenagers now and I can just tell them to bug off and leave me alone for a bit. As a matter of fact, they’re quite happy to 😉
I bet! I try to remind myself that someday, I will be *begging* for them to talk to me! 🙂
NMommy needed and took a time out earlier this week. I even put myself to bed early! Hilarious parody.
Good for you, mama! Thanks!
I loved the last verse, what an awesome song this is! It’s an anthem for motherhood everywhere.
Thanks Tarana! Lisa did a great job with the lyrics…
Fantastic!! This needs to go viral, because it’s sooo good and sooo true!!
Aw, thanks, Emily! I appreciate it!
This is my favorite line:
If happy ever after did exist,
I would not be feeling quite like this!
All those fairy tales are full of it
’cause Cinderella did not have kids.
So true! Those Disney Biotches never had kids, no wonder they were always so beautiful and well rested. Love these lyrics, so clever yet so true.
Right? Lisa did a great job with the lyrics!
So fun! First of all, I feel like that song is hard as hell to sing and you didn’t miss a beat! Lisa’s lyrics are great – I loved the part about Cinderella. I love these and will look forward to my monthly fix going forward!
Thanks, Susan- I SO appreciate your support! I really am having fun with these. 🙂
lol excellent!
(this totally needs to go youtube-viral)
Thanks, Clark. And fingers crossed! 😉
Ok so where was this ditty 15 years ago? As I ate my dinner on the backsteps during my regular Mommy Timeouts it would have been such a pleasure to listen to it over and over and over and over and over …
Just. Awesome. My two-year-old actually told me the other day in the car that I was in Big Trouble and needed to go to Time-Out because I couldn’t magically make her Grammy appear.
I absolutely LOVE it! The lyrics are fantastic, and you totally brought them to life perfectly with your singing! :)-Ashley
I can’t drink wine anymore – super dooper not worth it headache. HOWEVER one combo I absolutely loved and made me happy – Zinfandel and plain M&Ms. I’d have a wine glass and shot glass full of M&Ms on the side (keep the M&Ms in the freezer). I’ll reiterate that I had to get off wine for allergies but M&Ms I really needed to go to some anonymous meeting to get off of those. 😉
My kids never let me have a time out. Love the song. I am working on some lyrics for you still. It’s to Tupac. I hope you can rap.
I love these songs! Each one is so clever (and you guys are so ballsy!)
I love this, you did a great job and Lisa’s lyrics made me laugh out loud. Really enjoyed it. You rock! Now if I could just find the time to finish my lyrics – some day…
